Tips for Designing a Website

A well-designed website will give your visitors a good first impression. If you are like most people, you will always strive to stay on trend and keep your site up to date. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but you may be missing out on some crucial things. Here are some tips for designing a website that you should keep in mind as you design your site.

Designing a Website

1. Keep it clutter-free and clean

We are living in a world where ads, badges, icons, buttons, pop-ups, signs, banners, and so on are commonly used. Too much of something is poisonous, so why not give your visitors a break from all the clutter and noise? Embrace things such as white space and flat designs and give your visitors a different experience. Keep things simple. There is no need to fill your site with many things, sometimes less means more!

2. Do some design recon

Visit as many sites as you can, and when you find something appealing about them, put down some notes and apply the same concepts in your site. It could be an arrow image pointing to an important message or it could even be the layout of a page. Whatever it is, think of how you can make it happen in your site.

3. Make use of a visual hierarchy

If you are concerned about drawing the attention of your visitor, then consider using visual hierarchy. This method tells us that eyes move from left to right and from top to bottom. Therefore, when you put something you want your visitors to see on the top left corner, you are doing it right. However, ensure that you only put important content in these spaces.

4. Ensure that your text is easy to read

Nobody likes to squint to read a text, not at this age of computers. With that being said, it is imperative that you answer questions even before they have been asked. Here are some rules you can follow to ensure that your text is clear;

· Ensure that the colors you use work together. You do not want to give your visitor a headache, so double check your text to ensure that it is readable.

· Don’t use tiny fonts. There is no doubt that tiny fonts are attractive; however, using them is not just practical. Don’t give your visitors a reason to use a magnifying glass.

· Stick to your fonts. Develop a habit of sticking to at most three fonts and ensure that these fonts are reader-friendly.

5. Make your site mobile-friendly

With the advent of smartphones, most people have shifted from using computers to smartphones. It is high time you strike when the iron is still hot; don’t wait until it is too late. Design a mobile-friendly site! After all, you do not want to miss out on potential users, visitors and customers just because they are using mobile phones, do you?

While designing a website may appear easy, especially when you have the skills, it is easy for you to miss out on some important things. Use the above tips when designing a website and rest assured that nothing will go wrong.
